Broderick
Letters from Australia

In 1923 aged 23, Albert Henry Thomas Broderick, known to his friends and family as Bertie, emigrated to Australia, leaving his parents and sisters in Woking. He returned to England in late 1926 and about a year later returned to Sydney, where he stayed until the spring of 1931. While he was away, he wrote regular letters to his family who kept most of them safely and these have come into the possession of his daughter. As well as being part of the family history, the letters show what life was like for an independent young man in New South Wales at this period.
The letters are scanned as pdf files and appear on this website listed in date order. There is also an account of the voyage out which can be found as a sub-page under 1923, and subsequent voyages in 1926 and 27, and 1931.
